Web 2.0 and WordPress Themes

Published by at 8:05 am under Web 2.0 Course

WordPress didn’t used to have themes and websites we now know as having Web 2.0 features had long existed even before the term ‘Web 2.0’ had been confirmed. Nevertheless, the two concepts or structures do exist now, and they’re considered quite important in the World Wide Web. If you want to take your blog to the next level of success, choose a WordPress theme with Web 2.0 elements incorporated in it.

What is a WordPress Theme?

A WordPress theme may seem just like a skin for your blog, but it’s definitely more than that. WordPress themes aren’t simply a way of changing the look or design of your blog. More than that, WordPress themes also allow you to take control of the presentation of your content and other important management aspects.

A WordPress theme is made up of various template files gathered together to produce a user-friendly  graphical interface. With WordPress themes, you can ensure that your readers enjoy maximum convenience and comfort whenever they visit your blog.

What is Web 2.0?

Web 2.0 refers to particular trends in web design and development that focus on providing users as much functional and creative control over their websites or blogs and expedite the process of sharing information with other people online. Wikis, social networking sites, and blogs are just a few examples of what Web 2.0 pages look like.

How to Make a Web 2.0 WordPress Theme

Advertisement – Gone are the banner ads and pop-ups that often irritate users to the point of making them leave your website altogether. With Web 2.0, advertisements have actually become helpful and in some cases, quite desirable as well.

To make your WordPress theme graduate to Web 2.0 level, the ads you use should be strategically positioned on your website. It must enjoy immediate and favorable exposure without getting in the way.

They must match or fit in with the entire team rather than stick out like a sore and unwanted thumb. You want them to be content-sensitive: if you have a website on gardening, ads regarding dog care wouldn’t do at all; instead, you’d want something about florists, plant care, or any other gardening-related ad. Last but not the least, you’d want your ads to be written in the language your customers speak and understand best.

Search Engine Optimization – This is a key concept in Web 2.0 Search engine optimization encompasses all kinds of techniques implemented to increase search engine rankings of a given website or blog. Black hat SEO techniques use unethical, if not illegal elements. Although black hat SEO techniques can also help you, everyone is strongly discouraged from doing so.

Your layout alone can be used as a SEO technique. Firstly, you’d want your blog layout to be user-friendly, in the sense that the content is logically arranged and with the appropriate font size, style, and color. You’d also want your links to be clearly visible, easy to distinguish, and working of course.

Interaction – Last but not the least, make your blog interactive. Enable your guests to comment or rank your posts. Place a poll on your website and have your readers vote on important issues you wish to discuss.

There are many other ways to bring your old WordPress blog to the future. You can make downloading easier for your readers by using .bit torrent and you can explain crucial concepts with the use of wikis. All it takes is just the ability to be creative and the desire to serve your readers well.
